The Story of Our House: Living Room

Rather than just posting photos of our new house, I thought it might be fun to reveal the stories of each room and the items therein. If it’s not a fun concept for you, just avoid my blog for the next couple of days. But I warn you: our house is frickin’ CUTE.

Let’s start with the grand entrance, which leads to the Living Room. Here we go!

House Front
Welcome to our new house! We have beautiful fuschia azalea bushes in our front yard, along with gorgeous trees that canopy over our property. We have a green birdhouse hanging on our front porch, and a piece of barnacled driftwood on the window ledge. We also have two front doors. The one pictured leads to our music room, and the one you can’t see from this angle leads to…

Living Room
…the Living Room. Okay, the plaid chair…I’m holding onto it for my Mom, whom I assume now dislikes it.

We put together the bookshelves ourselves. By ourselves, I mean that I started it, got frustrated, threw it down, and Kyle finished it — though he told me to never buy an assembly required item from Wal-Mart.

Our Paul Simon record covers some ugly spot on the wall.

Last but not least, we bought the couch from Goodwill for $60. It is actually heinous pastel plaid with wooden details, so we bought the sack we call a couch cover. We also bought the cute pillows to distract from all the ugly.

Living Room, Continued
We continue our journey through the Living Room with the record cabinet thing. Kyle’s mom bought it for us at a yard sale for $5. It’s an awesome piece, although she probably thought it was hideous. On it, I have my PostSecret books from Kyle’s step-brother-in-law, two books from my mom (one of which is Martha Stewart’s Wedding Cakes — yet, we’re not engaged…hint much?), coasters made by Kyle’s cousin, and a Parisian themed calendar from my mom. Basically, everything we have in that region  is donated from family — even a handful of our vinyl.

The wooden face art was made by me…and is discussed way too much on this site. However, it’s for sale (check out the Shop link on the top of the site)…so rid me of it.

The table is an antique of Kyle’s, which is my favorite of all the furniture he brought into our relationship. It’s really beautiful with bowed drawers and carved details. LOVE it.

The TV was given to me by a client I had last year. They were moving back to Australia, and so they let me have it. Ain’t real estate grand (usually)?!

The crap on the table includes my book of postcards, a photo album of Kyle and me, a photo of my nephew, Andrew, and a photo of Kyle and me cuddling.

This, my friends, concludes the Living Room.
