Above is a piece entitled “Face I” that I completed back in July of this year. I really enjoyed the process of this piece, and I’m happy with the result…although it got slightly damaged in the move to Nashville last month. It portrays, obviously, a girl’s face by use of high contrast on her shadows and highlights.
As you can see, the materials used were cotton fabric, plywood, & thread. The adhesive was plain ol’ tacky glue, and a #2 pencil was used for sketching. Standardized testing authorities everywhere are applauding that decision. Oh! Before I forget, I must give a shout-out to my Singer Simple — the sewing machine that made all of this possible. Thank you, baby; you’re everything to me.
With the staircase to compare, you can see that the format is approximately 24” x 47,” which makes a lovely focal point in any room. If you or anyone you know would like a version of this piece, please let me know. If you feel slighted every time the editors don’t invite you to be on the cover of Vogue, I can produce a piece of your very own face for your admiration. If you have kids or idols or anything else, just send in the photo and request to [a dot vrabel at hotmail dot com].
