Look, I don’t ask you guys for much more than to tolerate my posts. But if you can, PLEASE take a few minutes out of your life and sign the petition I’ve linked above.
SouthBARK is a local, non-profit animal rescue where I live, and in the last 12 months they have rescued over 700 dogs from being euthanized just in Mobile County. That is as many rescues as the other 27 rescues have in the last 12 months COMBINED.
Basically, the county has banned this rescue from taking any more animals from their shelter. They’re saying that because SouthBARK posts photos of urgent dogs (referring to those coming close to the 30 day staying limit before killing), they are receiving too many phone calls, some strongly worded about their practices. Because answering annoying phone calls isn’t worth having lives saved. What it comes down to is that there is money paid out for turnover in these shelters, and SouthBARK is causing them to lose too much money from missed euthanasias. Otherwise, why would they care if volunteers were taking dogs out of their facilities? People are putting money over the lives of animals, and that just don’t fly with me. If it doesn’t fly with you, PLEASE sign the petition.
I should also mention that all 3 of our family dogs (and the one who has passed that sparked our love of doggies) were rescued. Our newest addition, Charlotte, was a rescue from SouthBARK — she was found living under cars in a West Mobile Target shopping center’s parking lot, nursing her 3 puppies until they were 14 weeks old. She is so kind and loving, and she was taken off death row by SouthBARK. We are forever grateful.
Thank you all so, so, so much for just considering signing the petition. It means so much to me.
