School Days: A Retrospective

School is back in session! Let’s celebrate and/or commiserate with students everywhere by…well…looking at me, I guess. All the big days of my education are here:
Kindergarten
For starters, here I am headed to my first day of kindergarten at Christ the King Catholic School. This, as you know, is where on my timeline that I began to love “Dream a Little Dream of Me.” I would spend four years in this plaid jumper, two years in a plaid skirt, and three years in an embroidered khaki skirt.

Freshmeat
Skipping right by puberty, we come to my first day of my freshman year in high school at Bayside Academy. What you see in the photo is pretty much what I did for the majority of each school day. I’m still wearing plaid, but as you can plainly see, no nuns were measuring my hemline anymore. SKANK.

SCADzilla
As much as I slacked in high school, I succeeded enough to grow up to be a college dropout. This photo is from move-in day at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. My roommates, Nikkie from Chicago and Sarah from Michigan (respectively), and I all crammed into about 50 square feet on our dormitory’s basement level. My bunk was so high that I couldn’t even sit upright in bed, but this was a necessary sacrifice in order to maximize storage. I know…it sounds luxurious, and you’re wondering why I left. Well, my guess is that I just couldn’t handle picking out outfits each day; I can’t function without uniforms.

If you’re interested in re-living high school days, check out High School Daze — a new blog by my fellow Alabamian, Daphne McClure. It seems so familiar…
