“Dream a Little Dream of Me” - Mama Cass Elliot
It’s no secret that I’m unapologetically nostalgic. While ye olde iPod was shuffling songs during my morning drive to get my hair cut, this old favorite came on.
“Dream a Little Dream of Me” is in my Top 2 Songs, and I can never resist singing along. I first heard it on a cassette that my kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Zoghby, made to play during nap time. I never fell asleep at nap time — probably due to the fact that music keeps my interest too well — and I would just lie with my fingers crossed on my red and blue mat, hoping this song would play next.
It’s strange that I cherished that song at age six, because I grew to relate to it extensively. I don’t know why I tend to be so needy at times, but I love that this song reflects the desire to be in someone’s thoughts. Maybe I’m ridiculous. Maybe I’m partial because The Mamas & The Papas were guest stars on “Scooby-Doo” once.
So, say nighty-night and kiss me. Hold me tight, and tell me you’ll miss me. While I’m alone, blue as can be, dream a little dream of me.
