I have to say that Portlandia, though I’ve only watched part of the first episode until my Netflix Instant froze, is really exciting me. Sure, I love poking some fun at different American cultures — who doesn’t? But the true excitement I have comes from the fact that Carrie Brownstein is in this. I met her in 2005 behind the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta…along with the other members of Sleater-Kinney, her old riot-girl band over which I obsessed. The story about that whole journey is here, if you’re into reading about high school coming-of-age crap. Anyway, the point is that I couldn’t be happier to see someone who shaped my life doing something new and fun, and I’m so glad people are responding. Awesome.
