Tell me…
…is this not the cutest girl you’ve ever seen? Yes, she is.
I know what you’re thinking. Girls like this are just trophies. They exist solely to be precious and make you feel like you’re something special because she graces you with her presence. Well, would it blow your mind if I told you that…she is also smart, witty, and talented, too?! Because she is. She’s Lindsey Welch, and she’s one of my favorite artists.
I have been following Lindsey’s art for about eight years now. She has always impressed me with her ability to achieve such an organic feel in her work. She works in innumerable media, but my favorite pieces of hers are usually her sculptures and paintings. Currently, I’m coveting her florals, so this is what I’ll show you:

Artist’s Statement:
I like art that functions under the guise of a dichotomy: flat/dimensional, bright/dull, colorful/dark, feminine/masculine. I get bored easily, so I like to use a myriad of media all at once in order to keep my attention. Most pieces are done in the span of thirty minutes or so, although some are more calculated. My favorites are always the ones I never thought I’d like, the ones that remind me of people, poems, places, and food.
Although I love to create visual art, I am primarily an award-winning poet. I work as a poetry screener at Callaloo, the leading academic journal featuring arts and letters of the African Diaspora. My literary interests include African American and contemporary poetry, Speculative Fiction, feminism and the Southern Gothic. I’m proudest of my family, my sensibilities, and my hips.
I have a poorly-kept poetry blog at beetsroot.blogspot.com, full of rejects. Visit me!
So when you’re done reading her poetry, email Lindsey your order for her art…and feel free to buy me a floral. Thanks.
