Surprise, Surprise…

Time heals all, which means time is necessary. The length of that time is most definitely a variable. In fact, I would have said I needed all the time in the world. Life always seems to have things planned differently for you.

Remember when I said that the right person will find you if you have patience? Well, I have to be honest. At the time when I said that, I didn’t believe it…well not in relation to myself, at least. I felt that all guys were the same, and I would have to give up on a lot of my hopes in order to find someone mediocre. Well, it’s not so. I can finally back up the advice I give out…what a novel concept.

The right guy is out there. He will kiss you with morning breath. He encourages the weird earlobe-rubbing habit you have. He’ll wash his dishes immediately after eating. He takes out the trash just because it’s full. He doesn’t like bars. He rubs your back just because you might ache. He doesn’t think your crush on Neville Longbottom is weird. He’ll give you half of his last bagel…and it will surprisingly be the strange combination of a blueberry bagel and strawberry cream cheese that you thought nobody else liked. He remembers your achievements. He appreciates that you wear sunscreen and moisturizer. He thinks about the future, and he isn’t embarrassed to include you in those plans. He’s going to medical school to specialize in oncology, which is something close to your heart. He’s smart, handsome, witty, and kind. He’s very tall, so your kids have a shot of being a normal height (if you’re 5’ 3” like me, that is). He’s all your secret desires in a partner and more…and he’s been right under your nose since kindergarten.

Basically, life will surprise you. You don’t know if you’ll find this kind of stuff when you’re six or sixty-six. Just when you think you’ll grow up to be the weird, lonely, dog lady that has to have her groceries delivered because she refuses to leave the house…you realize you might actually have a chance for the happiness you wanted as a kid. Well, we’ll see how it goes.

So, don’t settle. You’ll be swept off your feet, too.

Don’t make fun of me.
