Postcards, Postcards!
I collect postcards. I always have, and I always will. They’re the most economical way for me to “travel.” My mom is my largest supporter of this hobby. Ninety percent of my collection is from her, but that’s probably because she travels more than anyone else I know. Every time I get one in the mail, my day is made. Here is the most recent one from my mom:     Sure enough,...

New House! VOTE!!
I’m so excited right now that I’m tempted to throw a hoe-down, and I don’t mean a flight of stairs. I mean square dancing, knee-slapping, country bear jamboree. Why? Because I just wrote a fat check for my new house. This baby is my dream home! Small, updated cottage in the heart of downtown with a kitchen straight from the pages of an Anthropologie catalogue. The irony is that...

Blind-ish Contours
So, blind-ish contours on ripped cardboard with pen. The reason these are blind-ish contours is because I totally snuck some peaks anytime I felt myself going completely off the cardboard. I drew these people while looking at magazines and books, and I feel they took on a great Muppet-likeness. Call me obsessed, but…   The image is a little bit bigger there, too.

DIY Birdhouses
It’s Craft Time once again, dear readers. This means you get to see firsthand my trademark — shoddy craftsmanship — that I leave on my every project. Today, we’re making birdhouses. This Christmas, I made these two birdhouses for my mom and grandma. I wanted to give them something cute, one-of-a-kind, and inexpensive.  Let’s get rolling, shall we? First, build your...

Top Ten Fun Fonts
Sleek, suave, simple fonts are all the rage with much thanks to Apple. I love it, I do. However, if you’re like me, sometimes you need a giant, ridiculous, totally stylized font to get the job done. Whether you’re making a poster for a child’s room or just typing up your application to Clown School, these fun fonts will make you smile. In no particular order, my personal Top Ten:...

Proud Girlfriend
Imagine my delight when I saw Kyle’s website featured on Tumblr’s Directory! Kyle is now a celebrated musician on our website host’s radar. I couldn’t be any prouder if had done it myself. A Tumblette and a Tumblr Musician: the perfect Internet couple.     Kyle’s icon is the dog eyes…MY dog’s eyes. Damn, I’m proud of Kyle and Zoë Bear!  If you...

1970s Photo Booths
To me, the 1970s photo booth stands for a lot more than just four silly pictures. They have a tendency to make feel very nostalgic…for memories that aren’t mine. I know what you’re thinking: This crazy person has a weird split personality disorder that doesn’t even follow a logical timeline. Well, a little — but that’s not what I mean. My mom has millions of...

Theresa Andersson on Conan
Theresa Andersson creates soulful, catchy songs that have hints of 1960s jazz through and through. The harmonies she produces are deep odes to the Supremes that inspire movement in every sense of the word. Her music is something at which to marvel, but the audio alone isn’t what draws the crowds.  From the (way) below gritty video footage I captured, you can see that this one woman band is beyond...

WatchWatch
The above footage is from the show at The Basement in Nashville in October 2008. Of course, this song touched me due to my strong Catholic roots. Watch it. Love it. All videos recorded by Alexi Vrabel. Photo taken by Kyle Brady.

Gatlinburg, Day Two...Posted Day Three
Kyle, Erin, Karl, and I (plus baby Ezra and doggie Mac) arrived in Gatlinburg, Tennessee on Sunday night. We are having a bumpkin winter vacation this year. Either way, it’s been great. I would have told you sooner, but apparently wireless only pretends to work here. I have found a rare moment at 3:30am where it seems to be working fine… So, we grilled burgers both the first night...

Awkward Teacher Sightings
Mr. Wakefield was my Environmental Sciences teacher when I was a sophomore at my high school, Bayside Academy. He was also my Chemistry teacher during my junior year. In fact, he gave me one of my many On-Campus Suspensions, otherwise known as the days I most looked forward to in my high school experience. I liked OCS because I was denied human contact for an entire school day, and I could just...

Child Mentality -- In a Good Way
So, I’m attempting to lose some weight and tone up. Congratulate me; I’ve lost five pounds in two weeks! Anyway, I was changing in the gym’s locker room, and I overheard a group of kids chatting after their swim in the pool.  “How old are you?” “Six.” “Oh! You haven’t even lived half your life yet! You wouldn’t know.” “Well,...

Today, I bribed Kyle to like me more by buying him a case of harmonicas. It was a crappy case of harmonicas, but I think it worked. Photo by Bloke with Camera

Behind the Scenes: Kyle Brady's Demo
That’s right. My talented boyfriend is smack-dab in the middle of recording his new EP, Judas, I Don’t Believe You. My interpretation, for which I’m certain I’ll be scolded, is that this five song album pays homage to Bob Dylan while laying out a personal timeline of disbelief to possible belief. The album, therefore, is aptly named. If you have no idea what I mean, I...

Dogs vs. Rugs
What the f, dawgs?! Do you know that we have hardwood floors? Do you know we have tile? Some of us even have those newfangled concrete floors that I covet! How do you find the time — while holding your bladder, bowels, even your trachea — to locate a rug? Does it satisfy you further to blow your various forms of chunks on something that can stain, mold, and forever stink? We humans...
